Pride of Thanatos
I have seen all that there is,
And all that has been.
I have seen beauty, love, and hate
Turned flesh to rot.
I have seen little girls dressed in blue,
Made lovers break the promise of forever.
I have visited babies in their cribs,
Made mothers wail in the aftermath of me.
Wielded by evil against innocents,
Taken by force by the tired and broken,
I have made what is
Cease to exist.
Taking without conscience, it seems,
Pestilence and disease, I always follow.
Heartbreak and loss, I always gift.
There is none that can stand against me,
None I will not touch, given time.
I am what I am—
Through ages past,
An enemy to most,
But a friend to some.
